Role Overview
The Hardware Engineer – Embedded Electronics - Vehicle Infotainment will be a member of an execution-focused hardware team responsible for successful development and productization of in-house designed Vehicle Infotainment ECU that will be part of Fisker's next generation EE architecture. This candidate will report up to the Senior Manager - Embedded Electronics - Vehicle Infotainment
The selected candidate for this role needs to take direction from their manager and work with all internal stakeholders as well as external suppliers and partners to drive the product through its design, development, and test cycles as well as HW/SW and vehicle integration. The candidate needs to demonstrate a keen interest as well as broad technical skills and understanding of embedded electronic hardware units in automotive.
Responsibilities
Understand the system requirements for the Vehicle Infotainment unit. Understand the high-level/low-level design of the ECUs and work closely with engineers, architects, external design partners and suppliers.
Take ownership of assigned tasks in the design and development cycle, taking the Vehicle Infotainment ECU design from requirements to design to production and execute all the tasks successfully.
Participate in and support in the detailed design and prototyping of the unit.
Plan and drive the validation process of the units with the validation team(s).
Plan and drive the qualification tests of the unit with suppliers and validation team(s).
Support the suppliers, partners and Fisker Purchasing team on identifying and securing components for the units.
Support design optimization, functional safety, product quality and cost reduction exercises to continuously improve the unit.
Triage issues reported in validation and qualification testing, identify root causes, and drive the resolution of the issues with the internal and external stakeholders.
Support software bring-up and development of the Vehicle Infotainment unit by addressing all hardware issues reported during the software development cycle.
Support optimal packaging of the units into the vehicle, addressing all requirements of power, space, and thermal management.
Support vehicle integration of the Vehicle Infotainment unit and address all issues identified during the vehicle integration and testing cycle.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve the units based on all parameters.
Support the identification and ramp-up of volume manufacturer(s) for the units.
Stay on top of all automotive standards, certifications, and regulatory requirements for the Vehicle Infotainment unit and ensure that the product meets all criteria for success.
Keep up to date with the latest advancements in the automotive hardware design and development process. Help the team to own these skills over time.
Qualifications / Knowledge / Experience
Bachelor's degree in electronics & communications engineering, Electrical or Instrumentation engineering.
Minimum 5+ years of relevant hardware design and development experience in a fast-paced, technology-focused organization, preferably in the automotive space.
Strong understanding of the end-to-end development cycle of automotive electronic control unit (ECU) or High-Performance Computing (HPC) hardware.
Strong experience in hands-on debugging of embedded electronics hardware issues.
Experience working with multicore ARM based Processors/SOCs/microcontrollers and High-Speed interfaces such DDR3/DDR4, PCIe, Ethernet, USB, Wi-Fi, SerDes etc.
Experience in Design and Analysis of Analog circuits using OPAMPs/ discrete components and ADCs/DACs.
Experience in Reviewing and Analyzing high speed PCB Layout based on Signal Integrity, Power Integrity and EMI/EMC compliant design practices following IEC standards.
Experience in reviewing Schematic and PCB designs using Altium, OrCAD, or Allegro.
Good understanding of Electronic Hardware design FMEA analysis.
Hands on with Hardware tests plans and testing of Boards and using Lab equipment like Scope/MSO, Logic Analyzer, Spectrum Analyzer, Vector Network Analyzer, Signal Generator, Power Meter, VSWR meter, Insulation Resistance meter, etc.
Proven expertise in successfully taking new hardware from design to production.
Good understanding of vehicle integration processes for embedded electronic systems.
Exceptional attention to detail and precision.
Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong familiarity with emerging connected, software-defined vehicle technologies.
Must be comfortable with operating in a fast-paced, startup environment.
Preferred Attributes/ Competencies
Strong hands-on experience in the development of Vehicle Infotainment
units at a global Tier1/OEM.
Strong hands-on experience working on high-performance SoCs such as Qualcomm Snapdragon or NVIDIA Drive.
Strong understanding of packaging and operating constraints for hardware components and wiring harnesses in the automotive environment.
Good understanding of automotive safety system design and safety levels.
Good understanding of automotive cameras and displays technology.
Strong understanding of ISO26262 and relevant automotive safety and cybersecurity standards.
Proficiency in PCB design tools such as Cadence, OrCAD/Allegro, Altium, PADS.
Proficiency in Electronic circuits, SI and 3D simulations using HYPERLYNX, ADS/AWR, HFSS, etc.
