General Role Overview
At the heart of Fisker's visionary product lies a state-of-the-art powertrain, and you can play a central role in its delivery. The Engineer, Thermal Controls will be instrumental in developing a state-of-the-art thermal system. You will be responsible for system architecture design, control strategy and testing of the HVAC and powertrain cooling system.
Fisker is a fast-moving technologically focused startup, and in this context, you will need considerable flexibility and adaptability to deal with the rapidly developing requirements at the leading edge of EV Thermal and Powertrain implementation.
Duties and Responsibilities
Improve and help develop a simulation model/platform to analyze, optimize and troubleshoot various aspects of the Thermal System.
Develop Control algorithms for thermal management of the powertrain, battery, cabin HVAC, and heat pump, to deliver the best customer- experience in terms of performance, range, NVH, and cabin comfort.
Work with firmware and integration engineers to implement, test, and debug these algorithms.
Assist in developing the HIL test bench for Thermal systems.
Help improve thermal and HVAC system architecture.
Troubleshoot and debug thermal systems and propose solutions.
Work closely with design and CAE team to create thermal system solutions that meet cabin comfort, vehicle performance, durability, and mass targets.
Test and validation planning.
Usage profiles.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field. Master of Science is preferred.
4-6 years of relevant professional experience in Powertrain Thermal Systems at an Automotive OEM or Tier 1 Supplier.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Competencies
Excellent background in linear systems analysis, observers and state- estimation, and first principles design and analysis of Thermal control systems
Familiarity with Thermal performance attributes: range metrics, charging metrics, power consumption, Cabin Comfort, HMI (UA&UI)– including a detailed understanding of the regulatory definitions relevant to global markets.
Experience with requirements management tracking and ALM tools (for example DOORS, Polarion or JAMA)
Knowledge of HV Powertrain architecture.
Experience with scripting language like Python to query and analyze data.
Experience defining test and validation plans.
Familiarity with analysis tools, such as MATLAB / Simulink.
Familiarity with Functional Safety standards (ISO-26262).
Familiarity with DFMEA and PFMEA.
Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
Additional Requirements
Expected Salary Range: $45,080 to $115,580 per year.
Additional compensation: Salary is one part of total compensation which includes bonuses, equity awards as applicable, and benefits. An employee is eligible to participate in Fisker's equity program, subject to the rules governing such programs.

Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Fisker covers most of the premiums for employees.
The salary offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors including market location, job-related knowledge, education/training, certifications, key skills, experience, internal peer equity as well as business considerations. Fisker reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position within the salary range listed, taking into account the wide variety of factors listed above.
