Position Summary

Lightning eMotors' interns work with various teams within the Engineering department including R&D, product design, controls, mechanical, testing, and systems. This role provides on-the-job learning and training within the Electric Vehicle industry with the goal of delivering broad experience and understanding of the EV space. This is paid, part-time temporary position without benefits. No college credit will be given as a result of completing this internship.

  • Electrical/Electronic Systems
  • Thermal Systems, Platform, or Controls (placement to be determined at a later date)
  • Responsibilities

  • Inspect, assemble, and troubleshoot equipment and products while interpreting and following basic blueprints, diagrams, drawings, specifications, bills of material, and other written instructions
  • Participate in design reviews
  • Review and create documentation and work instructions
  • Assist in assembling test components for the lab
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Competencies

  • Technically minded: Capable of reading and interpreting drawings and prints as well as electrical schematics and drawings. Possess strong troubleshooting skills and ability to think creatively, outside the box.
  • Communication : Demonstrated ability to interact respectfully with all colleagues and customers. Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills are essential along with the ability to listen intently to others.
  • Team-oriented : Ability to build strong partnerships, work on cross- functional teams, and assist others when needed while possessing ability to work independently as needed.
  • Time management : Be proactive, self-motivated, and possess ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, meet deadlines, remain organized, and focused on work in a manufacturing environment.
  • Safety focused : You should keep safety in the forefront of your mind, demonstrating safe work practices and complying with safety procedures.
  • What we require:

  • Current college student, enrolled in an accredited community college, college, or university and seeking an Associates, Bachelor's, Masters, or PhD, OR
  • Recent college graduate, having graduated with an Associates, Bachelor's, Masters, or PhD within three (3) calendar years
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • What we prefer:

  • Course of study in Engineering (mechanical, electrical, mechatronics, etc.)
  • Formula SAE experience
  • Experience with CAD, PTC Creo, Simulink, or other related software
  • Desire to learn about and passion for EV industry
  • Schedule expectations:

  • Work schedule is Monday through Friday (sorry, no weekends)
  • Anticipated up to 26 hours per week, not to exceed 30 hours per week
