Hyliion is looking for an Engineering Technical Leader – Control Architecture and Requirement to join our engineering team in Austin. We are seeking exceptionally talented individuals that are highly motivated to revolutionize the trucking industry, reduce the use of fuel and have some fun. You will be joining an experienced engineering team in the design, simulation, implementation, and testing of electric powertrain systems. In this role, you will be deeply embedded in the daily development activities including control system requirement definition, controls development, and testing. You will be leading the requirement definition, design, and development of supervisory controls for hybrid and EV vehicles.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Define and improve Hyliion Connected Hybrid Powertrain control system architecture, function, and interface requirements
  • Interface with Hyliion OEM customers, supplies, internal stakeholder and development partners for requirement development and management
  • Collaborate on new control function concept study, translate its outcome into a well-defined requirement, and allocate requirements to multiple technical domains
  • Support software development through ASPICE process, guiding the team in design, implementation and verification phase
  • Identify and incorporate other advanced vehicle technologies (Autonomous Vehicle Platform, Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems, Connectivity, etc.) into Hyliion Hybrid Powertrain products
  • Identify when the team is blocked, escalate/communicate the team's needs, and provide requirement tradeoff study or alternative design options to ensure SW deliverable meet customer expectations
  • Create work plans for upcoming programs by establishing scope, identifying deliverables, and estimating resources
  • Help develop and improve a requirements management process within the engineering team for Hyliion's powertrain and drivetrain solutions to deliver industry leading performance and vehicle range

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience in developing powertrain or other automotive functions using APSICE process
  • Good understanding of system engineering approach to translate customer need to well-defined requirements and use requirements to drive innovations
  • Vehicle and powertrain control algorithm development and calibration
  • Controls algorithm implementation experience in MATLAB/Simulink or C
  • Requirements management tools such as Jama and DOORS
  • Hybrid/electric torque path, thermal, EE LV and HV architectures
  • Experience with software testing environments such as HiL and vehicle
  • Ability to work safely in hybrid vehicles, HV systems, etc.
  • Familiarity with ISO26262 standard and process
  • Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering or equivalent
  • 10+ Years of Experience in relevant engineering roles
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with cybersecurity standard ISO 21434, UNECE W.29 and process
  • Familiarity with functional safety standard (ISO26262) and process
  • Experience with Atlassian tool suite (Jira, Confluence, and BitBucket)
  • Controller Area Networks (CAN) experience (J1939 is a plus)
  • Knowledge and experience with major automotive or Class 8 systems
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with ETAS, Vector, etc.
  • Other Qualifications:

  • Strong teamwork skills
  • Proven ability in managing multiple projects, priorities, and assignments with accountability.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbally
  • Position will require travel to lead environmental development test trips, support supplier technical reviews, and evaluate system performance. Ability to travel up to 15-20%.
