What to Expect

Tesla's Vehicle Engineering team is currently seeking a frontend engineer that will own the web components of our computer vision platform for vehicle assembly and warehousing, our analytics and pattern recognition platform that governs Tesla's purchasing decisions, or, depending on fit and opportunity, any one of a suite of apps this team is building that address the most difficult problems facing our growing Gigafactory network.

Tesla's Vehicle Engineering team, in general, owns the centralized technical aspects of our multi-continent Gigafactory network and product line. The systems we work on include Tesla's most important programs, such as Cybertruck, cell production, Robotaxi, and new factories globally. The software team is responsible for making these systems and operations every bit as intelligent and dynamic as the products themselves.

As a frontend software engineer on the Vehicle Engineering team, you will be in a product ownership role, leveraging whatever tech you feel fits best, e.g., React, graphQL, and/or websockets, to re-imagine what the global Gigafactory network should look like. Knowledge of both frontend frameworks and computer science fundamentals, like data structures and algorithms, are highly desired traits. The ideal candidates care foremost about the end-user experience, despite the issues that inevitably arise in complex industrial and scientific environments. The role will require the confidence to flex into design, backend, and network security, as needed, to make the final product successful.

What You'll Do

  • Deliver web applications that are useful to diverse groups, e.g. professional design engineers, program managers, production associates, and forklift drivers
  • Write reusable components with clean, modular patterns
  • Work closely with other software engineers to integrate with backend systems and solve networking problems
  • Work cross functionally with mechanical and design engineers to support evolving research projects and implement new features
  • Maintain and improve existing applications to better support the Vehicle Engineering team
  • What You'll Bring

  • BS/MS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent industry experience
  • Working knowledge of the React framework
  • Proficiency with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Experience building streaming applications using, e.g., websockets
  • Expertise in debugging live software systems
  • Ability to demonstrate object-oriented, test-driven, and responsibility- driven design
  • Leadership experience in an engineering domain is a plus (not required)
  • From this employer
