Summary

The Battery Control Systems Validation & Verification Lead Engineer role is responsible for leading the readiness of the Battery Control System (Fusa and non-FuSa) for all Battery Programs at Rivian. The Lead Engineer will work closely with various stakeholders to derive sub-system requirements and verification test definitions. They will also audit requirements and DVP/Test traceability for program features o ensure our battery products are designed such that they are always ready for our customer's next adventure.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible to lead Battery Control System readiness against program timing for DVP sign-off for all Battery Programs at Rivian
  • Responsible for derivation of sub-system requirements & verification test definition for battery programs
  • Work proactively with BCS engineers, BMS SW engineers, HV Architecture engineers, Test and Validation Engineers and other key stakeholders for requirement decomposition and feature maturity plan to meet program timing
  • Work closely with the TPMs and TIMs for gap analysis of requirement test coverage and traceability in JAMA across vehicle, pack, and HIL for Functional Safety and non-FuSa deliverables.
  • Support Integration engineers and ESS T&V team with clear test and validation requirements including ESS FuSa testing and DVP sign-off.
  • Drive completion of Feature Design Reviews, Validation review, and Verification Confirmation reviews for Project Release to program milestones
  • Audit requirements + DVP/Test traceability and gap analysis for Systems to HW/SW implementation for all program feature
  • Development of standards for verification and validations of core battery control systems in collaboration with BMS SW and ESS Test and Validation Teams in accordance with ISO26262.
  • Communicate and drive cross functional development of control requirements with Rivian Vehicle Features, Propulsion, Thermal, and Energy Management Teams
  • Work with engineers across multiple disciplines to ensure timely completion of assigned tasks

  • Must be able to adapt and work within dynamic development timelines, with accelerated hardware production timelines, and software release cadence
  • Detailed understanding of software interaction between the battery management system & the rest of vehicle; familiar with battery measurement and controls architecture
  • Previous experience with cross functional requirement development and implementation as well and validation
  • Qualifications

  • 3+ years of work experience in Battery and/or Automotive industries
  • At least a bachelor's degree in engineering discipline
  • Expert knowledge of battery behavior and High Voltage Safety
  • Expert Knowledge of battery sensing technology and battery management architectural design
  • Previous experience in automotive product development environments
  • Previous experience launching large volume automotive electronics systems and production schedules
  • Previous experience in developing and leading verification and validation of core battery control systems
  • Excellent problem-solving skills; reliant on core engineering principles and common sense
  • Strong communication, multitasking, and interpersonal skills, both in presentation and technical writing
  • Versed with automated requirements management tools (e.g. JAMA, Doors, etc.)
  • Issue tracking tools (Jira, Bugzilla, etc.)
  • Familiar with ISO 26262 with focus on functional safety
