Overview

The Manager, Powertrain Integration will be responsible for design and development of cutting edge drive units for advanced developments. This position is tasked with managing the hardware core engineering team of the powertrain group and leads efforts for gear and bearing sizing, housings, thermal and lubrication, half shafts and integration of the eMotor and power electronics. The position oversees design of each component and must have familiarity with transmissions, drive units, and/or current eDrive systems to maintain a level of competitiveness in target setting.

Responsibilities

80's of the Position

  • Lead, Build, and manage a team of engineers, Subject Matter Experts, and support in cross-functional discussion.
  • Lead design efforts for cutting edge drive units and advanced projects.
  • Create and review 3D as well as 2D CAD and drawings, oversee design and integration of half shafts, gears, bearings, housings, thermal and lubrication and other hardware subsystems.
  • Own DFMEA, PFMEA, DVP&R and test procedures for electric machine (rotating and stationary) components and completed assemblies
  • Create, modify and review test procedures for components and drive units.
  • Lead and support other engineers with RFQs, quoting and supplier selection.
  • Up to 25% travel
  • Qualifications

    Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Must have strong background in eDrive design and familiarity with current products.
  • Proficiency with mechanical design computer aided design (CATIA V6, 3DX, etc).
  • Must have thorough understanding of component integration, program management, and manager experience.
  • 10+ years of Automotive powertrain design experience.
  • Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and experience completing stack up analyses.
  • Experience brining an automotive product to market and experience and supplier management.
  • Firsthand experience on development and validation of mechanical components and assemblies from prototype into production scenarios
  • Communication skills and experience with presenting results and recommendations to multidisciplinary teams
  • Preferred Experience

  • Master's Degree (or higher) in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or Equivalent
  • Experience with gearbox design, gear analysis, and performance and target setting of a drive unit.
  • Experience with traction motor design and manufacturing methods including induction and permanent magnet machines
  • Experience preparing test articles, collaborating with testing resources to complete DVP&R activities
  • Experience with root cause analysis and optimization methods
  • Working knowledge of GD&T requirements
  • Experience working in a precision manufacturing environment, focused on mechanical component manufacturing processes such as metal machining, casting, forging, stamping, plastic injection molding, and other specialized processes.
  • Ability to support design activities in cross-functional areas within the powertrain group
