Position Overview
This position will conduct failure analysis on battery pack being produce
providing detailed investigative findings Proterra's Staff Quality Engineer
and other leadership team members. As a Quality Failure Analysis Specialist,
you will work cross functionally with other teams within the organization to
ensure that the products being produced are of the highest quality.
About the Role – You Will:
Perform “triage” failure analysis of packs that are returned from field,
from customer plants, and product audit or reliability failures, and high
impact line failures (module, ABAY, and pack level) with the focus on
starting the 8D process.
Actively participle in Root Cause Analysis and Problem Solving to
determine source of failure from returned packs and in-factory defects.
Maintain thorough, detailed documentation of analysis work done utilizing
Excel and our Manufacturing Execution Systems for traceability and to
assist cross-functional teams in Root Cause Analysis.
Interface with engineering and production departments to troubleshoot
mechanical and electrical issues.
Upon completion of root cause investigation, communicate findings to the
production reman/rework tech so that they may bring the pack back to a
functional level as deemed appropriate.
Suggest improvements to process, machines, and/or materials to minimize
the occurrence of or ideally eliminate identified failure modes.
Maintain daily 5S standards.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.

This position will be part of the Quality team that supports Proterra's
Manufacturing and Engineering operations.
You will report to the Staff Quality Engineer and collaborate with
other Battery cross-functional team members in the Greer Powered 1
manufacturing location as well as associates located at our headquarters
in Burlingame, CA and the manufacturing facility in Greenville, SC.

Your Experience Includes
High School diploma or equivalent (Associates degree in relevant
technical field preferred)
3+ years of Electrical technician experience
Experience with automotive electronic and mechanical systems, including
hands-on high voltage applications
Proven ability to read and interpret engineering requirements from text to
drawings to schematics
Proven ability to use a variety of tools, precision-measuring instruments
and gages (ex: isolation testing, multimeters, oscilloscopes, data
acquisition systems, etc)
Familiarity with serial communication protocols (ex: CAN, SPI, ethernet)
in automotive applications. Ability to program is a plus.
Familiarity with battery manufacturing processes is a plus.
Experience with quality inspections and working within an automotive
quality management system a plus.
Formal problem-solving experience and certifications are preferred but not
required
Physical Demands:
May work various shifts as needed; may be requested to travel to different locations.
Lifting up to 25 pounds and occasionally 50 pounds.
Able to walk, stand, crouch, bench, kneel, lift, carry and reach as needed in large and tight spaces.
Good eye/hand coordination and ability to identify color variations, depth perceptions and close or distance visual items.
Manual dexterity with occasional repetitive finger motion.
Environmental Demands:
Ability to work in manufacturing environment with extreme heat and cold conditions.
Wear protective clothing or respiratory protective equipment.
Works with irritant chemicals, gases, etc.
