What to Expect
As a Senior Design for Reliability Engineer focusing on high voltage power
electronics systems, you will play a key role in designing reliability into
Tesla Energy's high voltage energy conversion systems. This role follows the
reliability lifecycle of the product from concept to design, development
testing/analysis, manufacturing, and field operation to design-in confirm and
grow exceptional reliability at every stage. You will investigate failures
through physical testing of residential and industrial energy systems (DCDC,
DCAC power converters) to accurately predict the system's robustness and
optimize product reliability while accelerating Tesla's next-gen products'
time to market.
What You'll Do
Strong understanding of Design for Reliability
Experience with Physics of Failure
Perform reliability testing for Industrial & Residential energy power
converters.
Determine component/system level test solutions that optimize for product
reliability and durability, DFMEA-based risk mitigations, test team
resources, and program schedules.
Execute independently Tesla energy product, subsystem, and component-level
reliability power cycling tests of switching converters such as new
semiconductor technologies, integrated circuits, capacitors, transformers,
etc.
Conduct test data analysis, clearly communicate test results, and
collaborate with design and reliability engineers to resolve issues
detected in testing.
Design and implement next generation hardware test systems and setups to
facilitate reliable design characterization and accelerated life testing.
Procure and develop required test equipment, instrumentation, and data
acquisition systems to enhance creative component and product level
reliability testing.
Facilitate failure analysis to understand the root cause and drive
resolution for failures originating in testing.
Continuously drive design risk burndown to ensure product design is
reliable and durable.
Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with design, reliability, and
manufacturing engineers to suggest design and/or process improvements and
address reliability & durability issues based on understanding of failure
root causes.
Capability and willingness to train technicians/interns to operate and
troubleshoot test systems to optimize the workload.
Comply with safety policies and regulations.
What You'll Bring
BS/MS degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering
discipline.
3-10 years of hands-on experience in power electronics hardware design,
design validation, hardware testing, mechanical system reliability, and
durability testing.
Knowledge of programming in scripting languages for test automation and
data analysis/post-processing.
Experience specifying sensors for test instrumentation and utilizing data
acquisition systems.
Experience pro-actively owning and delivering test engineering projects
within accelerated validation timelines.
Excellent written and verbal communication as well as organization and
documentation skills.
Experience working safely with high voltage equipment.
Proven ability to develop reliability and durability test setups,
including environmental, mechanical, and electrical stress testing, highly
preferred.
Preferred to have experience of common automotive communication protocols
(CAN, Ethernet)
