Role Summary

The Senior EHS Specialist will work as a local leader in Germany but also supporting Rivian's EHS activities across Europe. You are comfortable working with a wide variety of stakeholders, influencing incredible teams as a conduit of support, and fostering inter-department communications for sustainability, safety, and environmental matters. You know how to influence and shape the culture of operations, so this position drives engagement through communication and educates team members to ensure a safe and healthy workplace. In addition, the position supports and drives continuous improvement while working with team members to identify solutions to Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) challenges.

The ideal candidate is a highly self-motivated and organized individual. This person will have excellent problem-solving and analytical skills as well as be able to understand complex regulations and be able to communicate requirements to groups with diverse interests and backgrounds. Flexibility and excellent communication skills will benefit this person greatly as they will work in a fast-paced, multicultural, team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with applicable workplace safety regulations.
  • Understand and influence human behaviors to reduce workplace risks.
  • Competency in risk assessment and determining appropriate control measures.
  • Identifying and minimizing Environmental, Health and Safety risks and prioritising and communicating critical tasks, as required, to essential business units.
  • Effectively teach others to assess risk, identify hazards, and implement appropriate controls.
  • Develop and implement health and safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with health and safety legislation.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Support development and implementation of routine inspections and evaluate compliance with health, safety & environmental legislation.
  • Keep up to date on new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation and any developments affecting the industry.
  • Ability to manage environmental permits.
  • Support local teams in their interactions with enforcing authorities and generate any reports which are required on annual safety performance or workplace incidents.
  • Act as point of contact with occupational health provider and support creation and monitoring of annual plan.
  • Support personnel in selection of appropriate personal protective equipment and other safety equipment.
  • Conduct incident investigations to determine root causes and corrective actions.
  • Develop and deliver safety training and instruction, toolbox talks and health awareness programs.
  • Develop and establish emergency response plans.
  • Qualifications

  • Qualified to level of Sicherheitstechniker / Safety Technician as a minimum standard.
  • Qualified specialist for occupational safety (§7 Arbeitsschutzgesetz).
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in EH&S.
  • Proficient knowledge of safety and environmental regulations.
  • Proficiency in both verbal and written German and EnglishFamiliarity with data and root cause analysis techniques.
  • Detailed and concise communication
  • Understanding of incident and injury prevention programs.
  • Experience implementing, training, and maintaining safety programs.
  • Ability to work varied hours (emergencies, projects) with occasional travel (international & domestic).
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
