Position Overview

This position will provide comprehensive strategic supplier management support to Proterra's Director, Strategic Sourcing , and other site leadership team members. You will be responsible for strategic supplier management of assigned commodities/spend categories for Proterra. The Sr Sourcing Manager will work closely with materials/warehouse, logistics, manufacturing, engineering, and finance to develop and implement comprehensive sourcing strategies to support the Proterra business plan. Additionally, this position will work on leverage and synergy of opportunities with the Proterra multiple manufacturing sites, focusing on common commodities and suppliers.

About the Role – You will:

  • Lead a team of Global Supply Managers to source new products and ensure timely material incoming for Battery and Proterra powered business vertical
  • Identify, qualify and audit new suppliers for Proterra's business needs by performing market research and Preparation and execution of RFQ process, cost analysis, onsite supplier audit, T&C negotiation for all new products and present it in sourcing council for top management approval
  • Lead Contract/LTA negotiations and compliance, all while ensuring cost, quality, capacity, delivery and capability are met and sustained.
  • Drive cost down initiatives with engineering and finance teams by design modifications, resourcing and pure negotiations with supply base
  • Collaborate with Battery engineering on new product development activities to support projects, align design with our strategic supply base, and deliver products on time and at or below cost
  • Evaluate current spend and supplier data and identify improvement opportunities and new idea projects.
  • Support to manufacturing site requirements by expediting material from suppliers and making sure that the parts are on time for the production builds
  • Ensure on-time supply chain execution for all Battery NPI projects from sourcing new parts to the material on time to build at the right cost, quality, and in line with the overall commodity strategy
  • In charge of sourcing deliverables in stage-gate project development with engineering
  • Ensure Inventory material targets are met for the Battery commodity
  • Project and/or Program Manager activities, leading projects to meet objectives and drive operational results.
  • Identify areas of risk within the supply chain; implement appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Maintain knowledge of market industry trends within area of expertise and communicate the potential impact on business.
  • Monitor supplier market characteristics regularly; identify opportunities resulting from market shifts and take advantage of such shifts.
  • Review, prioritize, schedule, and expedite the delivery of material components to meet target dates and prevent production shortages.
  • Analyze and release purchase orders using approved/qualified suppliers for materials and tooling as needed for plant requirements.
  • Provide supply chain management control information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends.
  • Develop reports that measure performance and drive change throughout the supply chain.
  • Resolve unclear packing slips, invoices, and memorandums to ensure prompt availability of material and timely payments to vendors.
  • Be able to influence others on changes to the supply chain.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

  • This position will be part of the Sourcing team that supports Proterra's Manufacturing and Engineering operations.
  • You will report to the Director of Strategic Sourcing and collaborate with other Sourcing team members located at our headquarters in Burlingame, CA and manufacturing facility in Greer, SC

  • Your Experience Includes:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or Engineering (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of experience in global supply chain and strategic sourcing for direct materials
  • Strong in MS Office Software
  • Strong knowledge of ERP systems
  • Ability to create and report key performance indicators for projects
  • Ability to build relationships and partnerships to collaboratively execute business strategies
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, reasoning, problem-solving and organizational and project management skills
  • You might also have:

  • Master of Science/Management (Preferred) or any other advanced degree
  • Previous Electric vehicle industry experience
  • 3D CAD knowledge to understand engineering drawings
  • 1 – 5 years' of experience in engineering or high-tech industry
  • 1 – 5 years' of experience in Project/Program management
  • Experience in Financial accounting
  • Proven track record on cost reductions initiatives and contract negotiations
  • Travel: 0 - 40%
