The Sr. Dyno Technician will be focused on operating and maintaining dynamometer test systems for development and validation testing of electrified powertrain systems (drive units, gearboxes) as part of a well-rounded, experienced team at an innovative, fast-paced automotive company in Southern California.

  • Operate and maintain large e-drive dynamometers (for vehicle and powertrain system level testing)
  • Perform first line troubleshooting of any operational issues encountered on test and take ownership of delivering high quality test data to support high level test & validation plans for the products.
  • Support/conduct testing of motor control algorithms for electrical machines on dyno and in-vehicle.
  • Select and install instrumentation needed to collect response data from product during testing (accelerometers, strain gauges, pressure gauges, thermocouples, thermistors, etc.)
  • Build and set up test rigs/dynos for mechanical and/or electrical tests together with Powertrain, NVH, and Thermal engineering teams.
  • Perform routine maintenance to complex mechanical and electrical repairs.
  • Provide feedback, create and implement processes and suggestions to new and/or improved workshop standards, protocols, and processes.
  • Qualifications

    Required Experience:

  • 5+ years Technician Experience working directly in test cells and/or large dynamometer systems .
  • 1+ years of experience with electrified vehicles.
  • Knowledge of electrical skills: basic wiring ability, connecting sensors & power supplies, soldering, using a DMM.
  • Expertise in instrumentation (Thermocouples, RTDs, Strain Gauges, Accelerometers, Pressure Gauges, Flow Meters)
  • Expertise in mechanical tooling and build fixture design .
  • Knowledge of motor, inverter, and gearbox concepts
  • Knowledge of propulsion system and thermal (coolant and refrigerant) systems
  • Preferred Experience:

  • Extensive knowledge of either: hydraulic and /or pneumatic actuators is highly preferred.
  • Ability to assemble/design custom 12v wire harness for test fixtures is highly preferred.
  • High voltage certification or past work experience is highly preferred.
  • Python and/or Visual Basic experience is highly preferred.
  • Travel Requirements: 10% of travel might be required.
