Overview

The EMC/EMI Engineer will be responsible for the successful Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) validation of assigned programs. This entails working in concert with other engineering and developments teams within Canoo as well as directly with customer teams, in all stages of development from the early design through final validation testing.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities (80s of the Position)

  • Work with development teams to provide direction on design for EMC issues at the PCB and system/vehicle levels.
  • Own and create system and vehicle level test plans for validating the product for EMC compliance.
  • Supervise and perform EMC tests to determine compliance to domestic and international regulatory standards.
  • Select suppliers of EMC testing and manage the relationship between Canoo and the supplier ensuring quality results, value for money and timely execution.
  • Analyze results and perform diagnosis of problems and recommend solutions.
  • Coach and educate hardware teams internally on the significance of EMC, the current test methods, regulations and the criteria and targets that need to be met.
  • Support the investigation and resolution of EMC related issues assuming the role of subject matter expert.
  • Develop models for interference coupling mechanisms, shielding integrity, and circuit/cable interface isolation to mitigate and control conducted/radiated emissions and susceptibility stimuli.
  • Own the EMC capital investment strategy and ultimately of construction of internal EMC testing facilities and capabilities.
  • Deliver EMC performance status to cross functional leadership on a regular cadence.
  • Participate in product engineering team meetings to ensure consistency and technical issues are identified and resolved.
  • Write detailed test reports recording subjective and objective findings and any issues through JIRA.
  • Manage all open Concerns discovered on test with the responsible Design Engineers until a design countermeasure is achieved and plan for validation by retest, CAE simulation, or other means to close out open concerns.
  • Manage critical path timing of multiple tests to ensure completion on time and within budget.
  • Candidate should be able to prioritize tasks effectively and handle various tasks at the same time.
  • Must be "team oriented" with excellent communication skills.
  • Qualifications

    Required Experience:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering with Electronics Design, Electromagnetics', or RF/Wireless projects.
  • 5+ years of experience in EMC validation of electronic components, systems, and vehicles.
  • A clear understanding of EMC standards and regulations.
  • Experience of utilizing essential test equipment, such as Spectrum/Network Analyzers, Oscilloscopes, etc. as well as experience outsourcing test activities to 3rd party suppliers.
  • Familiar with EMC standards for EMC testing on emissions and immunity such as CISPR25, ISO-11452-2, -4, ISO-7637-2, -3, ISO-10605, IEC 61000-4-2, -3, -4, -6.
  • Experience using software tools for that will ultimately manage complex test programs and report findings cross functionally - Office Suite, JIRA, etc.
  • Experienced in troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Broad knowledge of creating and executing DVP&R's.
  • Preferred Experience:

  • Experience working at various test labs and facilities with broad test industry contacts.
  • Proven ability to identify and solve complex engineering problems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, displays a high level of maturity, ability to work as a member of a small nimble team, ability to work in a self-directed manner.
  • Travel Requirements:

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 20% of the time.
  • Physical Requirements:

    While performing the duties of this job, employees may be required to sit for prolonged periods of time, occasionally bending or stooping, lifting up to 10 pounds, and prolonged periods of computer use.
