About the Role – You will:
Manage, mentor, and support the cell engineering team as needed. Lead
recruitment efforts as the hiring manager.
Stay informed of the business' commercial and technical needs for the
future, and translate such needs into staffing, equipment, and resources
to support all necessary cell engineering activities.
Maintain relationships with current cell suppliers, support design/process
change approvals and support investigations into manufacturing anomalies.
Establish and develop relationships with new potential cell suppliers,
including those that have promising novel cell technologies.
Act as the primary point of contact for engineering teams to answer cell-
related questions.
Test cells in various industry standard and Proterra proprietary
experiments. Work with various chemistries and cell form factors. Perform
electrical, characterization, and safety tests.
Identify modeling needs to support all questions regarding performance,
lifetime, and thermal behavior of cells. Investigate best options and
support model development, validation, and usage.
Support BMS software development efforts by providing power limits and
algorithms that maximize cell performance without compromising safety and
lifetime.
Support battery engineering and customer engineering efforts as needed.
Oversee the collection and analysis of field data from deployed batteries.
Apply learnings to the entire cell engineering value chain as
opportunities arise.
Stay updated with the latest industry trends, advancements, and best
practices related to lithium-ion cells.

You will report to the Director of Systems Engineering and collaborate
with other Engineering team members located at our headquarters in
Burlingame.

Your Experience Includes:
5-10 years of relevant experience in lithium-ion cells from an product
integrator role (e.g: automotive OEM).
BS in an engineering field or equivalent experience.
