What to Expect
Tesla's Manufacturing Engineering team is at the forefront of building cutting
edge assembly lines and automation cells. This team is building the next
generation assembly lines which allows our operations team to produce amazing
vehicles at best-in-class quality and rate; in a safe and ergonomic
environment. The TPM on the Material Flow/Conveyance Engineering team is
responsible for managing technical projects from “cradle to grave”. This
includes system concept and detailed design, equipment specification,
implementation, and commissioning, as well as establishment and optimization
of processes that interact with the conveyance and storage systems. The scope
includes the automated conveyance and storage of painted and unpainted bodies,
battery packs, drive units, large underbody castings, and large General
Assembly (GA) commodities such as seats, tires, instrument panels.
Traditional project management functions such as timelines, budgets and
coordination's with vendors and other groups within Tesla are also the
responsibility of the senior technical project manager on the material flow
team.
What You'll Do
Overall scope and schedule alignment with each shop
Manage cross-functional factory projects with aggressive agenda
Contribute directly as project team coordinator to ensure successful
execution of workshop master layout design, permitting process, material
flow, production line, building design through all major project phases
including design, equipment specification and selection, procurement,
construction/installation, integration, commissioning, buyoff and start of
production
Translate different requirements from stakeholders into project scope and
define the responsibility interface clearly.
Collaborate with Infrastructure, manufacturing, ME, material flow, QA team
to coordinate building, utilities, process, and equipment changes
Provide significant technical and design input for project scope
development, and problem resolution for design, construction, equipment
installation and commissioning
Generate presentation content for project status updates
Closely collaborate with external equipment integrators on equipment move-
in, installation, utility tool install management on site
Responsible for project performance against targets for safety, scope,
schedule, and budget
Works on multiple projects as assigned by Project Managers
Optimization of flow – reduced touches, less process steps, etc.
Manage the roadmap of projects working within the framework of the overall
program
Work collaboratively with all engineering stakeholders (project
engineering, industrial engineering, design, controls, software etc.)
through the various stages of the project: Concept development, prototype
testing, engineering design, system build, integration, and testing
Drive vendor partnership working closely with supply chain and purchasing
team and ensure alignment on engineering requirements, scope, schedule,
and cost
Drive requirements and solutions with all internal stakeholders such as
infrastructure, logistics, controls, software, and manufacturing
engineering teams for the success of the project
Own and drive internal operations during the install, commission, testing
and integration phases of the project
Set goals, track deliverables, identify risk and drive mitigations across
all stages of the project
Continuously develop and adapt processes and methodologies to the team's
needs
Identify resource requirements and highlight gaps across various stages
for all projects
Own report-outs for all projects, highlighting status, risks, mitigations

What You'll Bring
Bachelor's degree required or equivalent experience
Experience in technical program or project management, ideally with
multiple delivered projects of medium ($1-25M+) to large sized capital
equipment systems
Experience developing processes and methodologies to suit specific
engineering workflows desired
Knowledge of JIRA and diverse continuous integration workflows is a plus
