What to Expect

We are seeking Systems Integration Engineers to support the development and deployments of the Tesla Semi. This role will pay special attention to vehicle accident investigations and customer claim investigations where safety systems, automated features, or vehicle behaviors are in question. This will require close work with a variety of departments and teams throughout the company including Engineering, Service, Legal and Customer Support.

What You'll Do

  • Bring-up and debug new revisions of software and hardware to ensure proper vehicle behavior, performance, and system interactions during design, launch, and deployment of products or features.
  • Log vehicle routines and signals to aid in issue diagnosis and troubleshooting.
  • Investigate and respond to field issues involving Tesla Semi engineering vehicles. Debug, document, and report system and vehicle issues in detail to relevant design and service teams.
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of all vehicle systems and their integration. Understand how each system plays into the overall vehicle performance and customer experience.
  • Create and execute system and vehicle validation plans for engineering vehicles operating in endurance, hot, and cold weather testing.
  • Coordinate with design teams to perform further root cause analysis with component owners where necessary.
  • Help various cross-functional teams understand how their systems and related decisions impact different vehicle systems.
  • Support validation teams in developing component and system level test plans to meet product requirements.
  • What You'll Bring

  • BS+ in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in vehicle systems development.
  • Experience in commercial vehicles, especially heavy trucking, preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to get a Commercial Driver's License.
  • Excellent at hands-on debugging complex subsystems involving network microprocessors and software-controlled electrical or electromechanical devices.
  • Comfortable analyzing data to improve design and performance of a system.
  • Understanding of hardware and software development processes.
  • Experience with automotive debugging and logging tools – CANape preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills - can clearly communicate technical findings to various audiences including Engineering, Service, Legal, and Customer Support teams.
  • Understanding of a variety of in-vehicle communication systems (CAN, Ethernet, or LIN).
  • Self-starter, motivated, eager to learn and guided by a strong moral compass.
  • Have an exceptional capacity for managing simultaneous activities and challenges.
  • Strong people skills and positive “can do” attitude.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites, proving grounds, and other locations as needed.
