What to Expect
We are seeking a full-time Technical Sales Engineer on our residential energy product channel team. As a leader on this team, you'll help accelerate the growth of our Powerwall and residential Energy products with our B2B partners, helping them optimize their design and installation of our products, operationalize best practices and unlock constraints to their growth. You'll be joining a fast paced team, wearing several hats focused on the success of our B2B channel partners. Besides a rock-solid work ethic and strong team- oriented personality, leaders on our team display excellent communication skills (internal and external), creativity and passion, and a desire to break new ground in a constantly shifting landscape. The role is based in the West Coast region close to a major airport.
What You'll Do
This role is the main liaison with the technical and installation personnel at our 3rd Party Certified Installers. You will be responsible to visit them in person, help them overcome areas of technical uncertainty, help them understand our products in detail, learn how to install/design more efficiently, unlock new features and help launch new products. Your objective will be to help our partners drive all-in costs lower, improve efficiency, and drive attachment rates of Tesla residential energy products higher.
This role requires a hands-on understanding of how our products get designed, installed, and commissioned. Ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the national electric code, industry best practices, have experience with electrical permitting and interconnection.
This is a multi-faceted role, spanning across application engineering, quality assurance and technical training. As well as a strong understanding of the solar and storage market, the role requires solid electrical engineering skills and an in-depth understanding of code requirements and installation practices for residential applications.
· Account management:
o Partner closely with the account management teams to drive and strengthen the customer relationship
o This role is expected to travel and visit partners in person across a wide geography, expect 50% travel.
o Provide day-to-day product and design support to customers and customer- facing teams
o Develop trusting relationship with customers to understand their product needs and technical challenges
o Engage with the technical support teams to ensure speedy resolution of customer escalations when necessary
· Quality and Training:
o Develop strategy, processes and metrics to enable ongoing measurement and evaluation of quality in the network of installation partners
o Leverage available audit data and field feedback to track trends and determine appropriate corrective or preventive actions
o Coordinate field training for CIs' first and unusual installs, and provide pre-install planning support to drive success and quick adoption of the products
o Identify training gaps and coordinate content creation with central training team.
· Application engineering:
o Capture local market needs and localize technical content / provide feedback to product team.
o Collect field feedback from quality audits and service requests and drive continuous improvement of products, processes and services
o Identify, drive and document certification and system requirements for regional incentives and technical standards
o Support development and deployment of new features and products, support field trials and assist the new product introduction process.
· Efficiency Consulting:
o Visit and consult with key CIs at their offices and jobsites to share installation and operations tips, tricks, and best practices to improve their experience with Tesla products.
o Identify areas that CIs can cut costs and be more efficient, therefore driving more product sales.
o Help to alleviate labor rate and efficiency constraints for our installers through advanced classroom and field training.
o Responsible for visiting all Certified Installer offices in their region to observe and coach design and installation best practices - expected to travel to every CI in the region every 4 months.
