Position Overview

This position will provide comprehensive test engineering support to the Proterra Powered validation team. You will be responsible for leading and executing characterization, validation, and safety tests on new electric vehicle technologies, documentation of tests and failure analysis resulting from those tests. This position will work as the face of the company maintaining the highest level of safety at all required locations and be the primary validation engineer on the execution of validation activities supporting Proterra Powered activities. This role will support Proterra Powered projects with development partners.

About the Role – You will:

  • Execute characterization, verification, and validation tests on multi- battery configurations, adding in other controls, charging systems, and other auxiliaries.
  • Facilitate vehicle level testing at the Proterra Test Center to further validate systems tested in the lab environment.
  • Interface with Powered customers on their vehicle setups, and correlate lab setups to validate the systems we are providing. Communicate with end customers regarding test results and correlate with their full vehicle testing.
  • Develop DVP&Rs and implement the appropriate test methods and equipment to execute.
  • Provide clear and concise documentation related to tests, including reports on parts under test and their status.
  • Capture identified failures in detail and work with engineering to facilitate resolution.
  • Troubleshoot and debug issues with test equipment.
  • Prioritize and complete tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Interact with a wide variety of individuals and teams to communicate results.

  • At times we are the direct interface to the OEM representing other Proterra internal development groups from a technical perspective.
  • You will report to the validation engineering lead and collaborate with other engineering team members located at our headquarters in Burlingame, CA and manufacturing facilities in Greenville, SC and Greer, SC.
  • This position will be located at the newly developing battery manufacturing site in Greer, SC.

  • Your Experience Includes:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related Engineering fields or equivalent relevant experience
  • 2+ years of testing experience in the automotive or transportation industries. Understanding of high voltage storage systems.
  • Experience with LabVIEW, digital and analog interfaces for PCs, test systems, etc.
  • Experience with P-CAN explorer or Canalyzer
  • Familiarity with the high voltage products and automotive CAN communication networks.
  • Experience in an R&D testing environment.
  • Experience with completing tests and resolving problem in an unattended manner.
  • Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with scripting languages such as python, MATLAB, C, etc.
  • Experience with test instrumentation and data acquisition systems such as Dewesoft (i.e., temperature, flow, pressure, current, voltage)
  • Experience in electrical and electronic circuit components
  • HV safety training
  • Travel: 10-20%
