Overview

Calibrate the vehicle powertrain software controls such that it meets the design requirements and accurately reflects the “voice of the customer”, ensuring the vehicle is competitive and competent in the market.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities (80s of the Position)

  • Calibrate various vehicle powertrain software controls to meet the design requirements established for the product.
  • Design vehicle level test procedures and create judgment criteria to validate vehicle design requirements are met.
  • Create and execute detailed test plans and work with external test facilities and test suppliers to organize testing needs.
  • Ability to understand the customer's needs and champion the “voice of the customer” when conducting vehicle tests.

  • Interface with cross-functional teams to support powertrain performance testing, software testing, and vehicle validation.

  • Provide guidance on test reports and help to create and review templates for proper documentation of results and test planning.

  • Document issues discovered during testing, assess whether a design countermeasure is required, and ensure issues are resolved in a timely manner.

  • Support all open concerns discovered through testing with the responsible design engineers until a design countermeasure is achieved and validated by retest, CAE simulation, or other means.
  • Support the vehicle validation process activities during the product development lifecycle from product concept to production launch.
  • Qualifications

    Required Experience

  • BS in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of test engineering experience.
  • Work experience with vehicle level calibration processes.

  • Experience with in-vehicle testing of powertrain systems.

  • Knowledge of battery electric vehicle architecture with detailed understanding of powertrain, battery, chassis, body, and 12-volt systems and a basic understanding of vehicle level firmware including the process of automatic code generation.

  • Strong professional and technical competence in vehicle testing and validation methods.

  • Experience with creation of test plans, test reports, and test evaluation and validation.
  • Experience with software and data analysis tools such as MatLab, vSignalyzer, MDA, GIT, Jira, etc.
  • Experience with simulation and design tools like Matlab and Simulink.
  • Experience working with various data acquisition tools and sensors such as; Vector CANape, SoMat eDAQ, Siemens LMS, VBox, OxTs, accelerometers, microphones, thermocouples, pressure transducers, strain gauges, LVDT's.
  • Ability to understand the customer's needs and champion the “voice of the customer” when conducting vehicle tests.
  • Proven ability to identify and solve complex engineering problems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, displays a high level of maturity, ability to work as a member of a small nimble team, ability to work in a self-directed manner.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, performance driving license preferred such as a racing license, or test driver license from an automotive proving ground.
  • Preferred Experience

  • Experience with requirement management systems like Jama, Doors, or Polarion.
  • Travel Requirements

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
